Mason Kornmann Jr. State parole officer

Services for Mason H. Kornmann Jr., a retired parole officer for the state, will be held at 10 a.m. today at the Leroy M. and Russell C. Witzke Funeral Home, 1630 Edmondson Ave., Catonsville.

Mr. Kornmann, who was 74 and lived in Irvington, died of cancer Saturday at the Bon Secours Extended Care Facility in Ellicott City.

He retired as a parole officer about 10 years ago after working many years in Baltimore.

The Baltimore native graduated from Mount St. Joseph High School and earned a law degree at the University of Baltimore.

He had played third base for the Mount St. Joseph baseball team, for a semiprofessional team in Dover, Del., and then for fast-pitch softball teams. He also was a duckpin bowler and played golf at the Allview Country Club, where he once shot a hole in one.

Mr. Kornmann became a master sergeant while serving in the Army during World War II.

He is survived by a sister, Doris West of Columbia; a brother, Robert Kornmann of Catonsville; and several nieces and nephews.
