How would you describe your taste in clothing?

I guess you would say that I like classic clothes. Things I can dress up or down, depending on the occasion. My clothes tend to be more sporty than dressy.

What's the newest thing in your closet?

A black and white print dress. It's a straight line dress with a front pleat and a wide belt with a gold buckle.

What's the oldest thing in your closet?

A winter white suit that is about six years old. I hold on to it because my husband gave it to me as a surprise.

Do you have a true "standby" that you wear to feel good and look good when you're in doubt?

A nice black wool suit.

If you had a chance to have a quiet little dinner with the person you'd most like to meet, who would that be and what would you wear?

There are two people I'd really like to meet -- Candice Bergen, because she looks like she'd be interesting. And she's really classy in manner and dress. And the other is Rick Dempsey, who seems like he'd be a lot of fun and seems to be such a good person.

I'd wear a nice silk pants suit or a jump suit or a dressy suit.

Do you have a special outfit that's just hanging around waiting for you to lose a few pounds?

I have a dress and a pants suit, that are just a little snug, but I'll lose those few pounds.

What is your wardrobe weakness?

My daughter is always saying, 'Mother you DIDN't buy more shoes!' I bet I have about seven pairs of winter dress shoes, five pairs of tennis shoes, 10 pairs of flats.

What's the most expensive item in your closet?

A navy blue silk dress with white pearl buttons from Macy's. I went back to the store for about six weeks until it went on sale, then I bought it.

What's the least expensive item in your closet?Probably a shirt.

What's the wildest outfit you've ever bought?

It was a summer dress with a wild print that I ordered from a catalog. The first time I wore it, I didn't want to take the jacket off, but when I did everyone liked it.

What's the biggest mistake you've ever made buying clothes?

A black velvet Evan-Picone skirt. I thought it looked good in the store when I tried it on. But when I got it home, I felt like I looked like the side of a barn. I couldn't take it back, because I had to wear it on New Year's Eve, but after that I gave it to my daughter, who is a good seamstress and she made a couple of outfits for her little girl.

Do you have any shopping tips you'd like to share?

I always watch for sales.

If you could buy anything you wanted, what would it be?

A beautiful black sequin dress that I saw at Macy's. It was about $600.
