Avoiding state worker layoffs

It's Your Call

December 18, 1990

Callers to The Evening Sun's SUNDIAL would prefer to have state programs cut rather than to have taxes raised to avoid state worker layoffs.

Of the 912 total callers, 76 percent (700 callers) opposed paying higher taxes to avoid state worker layoffs, while 24 percent (212 callers) would be willing to see taxes raised. About 57 percent (518 callers) supported cutting state programs to avoid having to lay people off, while 43 percent (382 callers) didn't support cuts in state programs.

"It's Your Call" represents a sampling of opinions from certain segments of the community, but it is not balanced demographically, as would be done in a scientific public opinion poll.
