William G. Cousin Sr., 94, retired painter

William G. Cousin Sr., 94, a retired painter, died Thursday at Mercy Medical Center after a brief illness.

Funeral services were being held today at Sharon Baptist Church, Stricker and Presstman streets.

Mr. Cousin was a resident of the Canton Harbor Nursing Center.

Born in Newnan, Ga., Mr. Cousin came to Baltimore in the 1920s and worked for many years as an independent house painter. He later worked for General Instruments in Cockeysville, retiring from there in 1969 after 25 years of service.

Mr. Cousin served in the Army during World War I and saw action in France and Germany.

He married Mamie Moore in 1926. Mrs. Cousin died in 1986.

Mr. Cousin was a member of Sharon Baptist Church, the Prince Hall Lodge of the Masons and the American Legion. He also was fond of reading and telling stories.

Surviving are four sons, William G. Cousin Jr. of Baltimore, Thomas A. Cousin of Pikesville, David A. Cousin of Columbia and Sidney L. Cousin of Ellicott City; two daughters, Sarah D. Banks of Mount Laurel, N.J., and Elise Gray of Baltimore; 13 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

The family suggested memorial donations be made to the Sharon Baptist Church Building Fund, c/o the Rev. Alfred Vaughn, 1317 N. Stricker St., Baltimore 21217.
