Ground Is Broken For Science Wing

December 16, 1990

Superintendent Michael E. Hickey and former school board member Anne L.

Dodd turned the first shovels of earth at a groundbreaking ceremony last week for the new Oakland Mills High School science wing.

Hickey told a crowd of students, teachers, school board members and former Oakland Mills principals that although he had experienced many ribbon-cuttings on new buildings, the OMHS ceremony was his first groundbreaking in seven years at the helm of the county school system.

William Donahue, the first principal of Oakland Mills High, who headed the school from 1973 through 1977, William Chesnutt, principal from 1978 through 1983, Lee Noel, principal from 1983 through 1986, and Sue Ann Tabler, principal since 1986, also turned over spadefuls of soil at the ceremony.

They were joined by state Delegate Virginia Thomas, D-13A, who helped obtain the $2.1 million addition to the school, as well as faculty members and student government leaders.
