New Library Bids Received

December 16, 1990

MOUNT AIRY - A Baltimore firm was the lowest bidder Friday for the new Mount Airy library, scheduled to open in June 1992.

Tom Rio of the county building construction department said Peter J.

Scarpulla Inc. of Baltimore -- which bid $2,604,000 on the project -- will probably be recommended to the County Commissioners if the company passes the financial evaluation process.

"We want to look more closely to make sure the company is both responsive and responsible for the project," Rio said.

The next-lowest bidder was Viscount Construction Inc. of Towson, Baltimore County, which bid $2,694,000 for the project. All bids were below the engineer's estimate, which was $3.4 million.

"From the indications we've been getting from other counties, this mostly reflects the downturn in the immediate economy," Rio said.

Library officials hope to begin construction on the project in March.
