Blast names Ronson best of quarter

December 12, 1990|By Sandra McKee

The Blast announced a six-game television package with Channel 45 today, and also named its Player of the Quarter.

Billy Ronson, the 5-foot-4 midfielder who makes opponents miserable with his quickness and relentless hustle, was expected to get the honor for the first quarter of the season.

Ronson also is pestering opponents with his scoring. Through 15 games, Ronson has 10 goals and 19 assists to lead the Blast. Although he has had big nights, like the club-record six assists he recorded against St. Louis Oct. 27 and a hat trick against Cleveland Dec. 1, consistency has been his best quality. Ronson has scored at least one point in 11 of 15 games.

The television package with Channel 45 will kick off on Dec. 26 at Kansas City, with Art Sinclair doing the play-by-play and Baltimore native and soccer aficionado John Mangione doing the color.

When Sinclair is working a TV game, Dave Johnson of WTOP-AM in Washington will do the radio play-by-play, with Bob Bartel continuing to do the color for WCAO.

The television schedule follows: Dec. 26, at Kansas City, 8:35 p.m.; Jan. 19, home vs. Tacoma, 3 p.m.; Feb. 10, home vs. Kansas City, 2:05 p.m.; Feb. 23, at San Diego, 10:35 p.m.; March 16, home vs. San Diego, 2:35 p.m.; March 27, at Kansas City, 8:35 p.m.
