1990-91 Anne Arundel County Wrestling At A Glance

Severna Park Falcons

December 12, 1990

Head coach: Dave Caprio (first season).

1989-1990 record: 0-13.

Top wrestlers: Seniors, Paul Eheman (140) and Kevin Joyce (145); juniors, Dave Rupert (119), Bieu Voung (125), Scott Woodland (135) and Aaron Cree (171).

Coach's outlook: "We have two full squads, and we have good practices.

The kids are hard-working and eager to learn. I was pleased with the way we wrestled against (top-ranked) North Carroll, even though we lost. The guys knew they had to make the best of it, and they were persistent. They used the moves that they've been taught, and they didn't back down. We're looking to win a couple matches this year."

Anne Arundel County Sun outlook: Caprio, a 1983 Severna Park graduate who placed third in the county tournament, appears ready to improve a program that has nowhere else to go but up. Woodland is his top prospect, having posted a 15-11 record last year. Woodland was fourth in the regional tournament. He lost, 3-0, in the first round of the state tournament to North Carroll's Jason Meyers, the eventual 119-pound runner-up. Eheman and Cree both were 1-1 after the tri-meet with North Carroll and Meade. In the tri-meet, Rupert had North Carroll's state runner-up Tom Dell on his back before losing. He looks promising. Caprio is hoping to build his lower weights around Voung and is encouraged that the Falcons trailed Meade, 30-27, with two bouts left before losing, 42-27.

Severna Park has a good chance to win one match or more this season. That's progress.
