AMERICAN VS. LOYOLA WHEN: Tonight, 7:30.

* WHERE: Reitz Arena.

* TV: HTS, tomorrow, 9:30 p.m.

* OUTLOOK: This is a matchup of two explosive backcourt combinations. American (3-2), which is coming off of a 20-9 season in which it tied for second in the Colonial Athletic Association, has five players averaging in double figures. Brian Gilgeous, a 6-6 sophomore, is at 18.0 and 6-1 senior Brock Wortman is at 15.2. Loyola (3-4) also relies on its perimeter people: Kevin Green (24.0), Tracy Bergan (13.9) and swingman Kevin Anderson (12.0) are the top scorers.

UMBC VS. GEORGE WASHINGTON * WHEN: Tonight, 7:30.

* WHERE: Smith Center, Washington, D.C.

* RADIO: WITH-AM 1230.

* OUTLOOK: The Colonials (3-3) were blitzed by Loyola in their opener, but since have posted some good victories, the most impressive coming Nov. 30 at Stanford. First-year coach Mike Jarvis has made sophomore Dirkk Surles his go-to guy, and the 6-2 sophomore is averaging 22.0 points and 5.3 rebounds. The Retrievers (1-5) are looking to end a four-game losing skid. Senior big men Derrick Reid and Jim Frantz pace UMBC.
