Elsie J. Stedman, 96, a lifelong resident of Baltimore, died Thursday at St. Joseph Hospital of respiratory failure.
A mass of Christian burial was being offered today at SS. Philip and James Roman Catholic Church, 2801 N. Charles St.
Mrs. Stedman was a resident of the Meridian Nursing Center-Loch Raven.
The former Elsie Maczis was born and reared in Baltimore. She attended Fourteen Holy Martyrs grade school on Fulton Avenue and lived on Eutaw Place for 30 years before moving to the nursing home.
Mrs. Stedman was a member of SS. Philip and James Church, a past president of the Sodality and an ardent worker in the altar society. She was also a member of St. Elizabeth's Guild, Jenkins Memorial Auxiliary and Bon Secours Auxiliary, and was a past president of the Calvert Hall College Parents Club.
Mrs. Stedman's husband, Arthur G. Stedman Sr., died in 1955.
Survivors include a son, Arthur G. Stedman Jr. of Baltimore, and two granddaughters, Elise J. Stedman of Washington and Laura J. Stedman of Baltimore.
