Elsie J. Stedman Church worker

A Mass of Christian burial for Elsie J. Stedman, a lifelong resident of Baltimore, will be offered at 10 a.m. today at SS. Philip and James Roman Catholic Church, 2801 N. Charles St.

Mrs. Stedman, a resident of the Meridian Nursing Center-Loch Raven, died Thursday of respiratory failure at St. Joseph Hospital. She was 96.

The former Elsie Maczis was born and raised in Baltimore. She attended Fourteen Holy Martyrs grade school on Fulton Avenue and lived on Eutaw Place for 30 years before moving to the nursing home.

Mrs. Stedman was a member of SS. Philip and James Church, a past president of the Sodality and an ardent worker in the altar society. She was also a member of St. Elizabeth's Guild, Jenkins Memorial Auxiliary and Bon Secours Auxiliary, and was a past president of the Calvert Hall College Parents Club.

Mrs. Stedman's husband, Arthur G. Stedman Sr., died in 1955.

She is survived by a son, Arthur G. Stedman Jr. of Baltimore, and two granddaughters, Elise J. Stedman of Washington and Laura J. Stedman of Baltimore.
