Support systems:

Jeffrey R. Lapides is appointed vice president, commercial products for Essex Corp. His previously held positions include president at Alleco Inc., formerly a national commercial services firm, and president of its largest subsidiary, Service America, TC national food service firm, prior to its divestiture.

Essex has recently created a Commercial Products Division to advance its commercial efforts in publishing, psychological testing, systems integration, and optical computing. Essex Corp. provides training, support services and information systems to government and industry and manufactures digital-optical systems and processors.


William A. Stanfield joins the staff of Gaudreau Inc., a Baltimore-based architectural and engineering firm. He was previously with John S. Chase, FAIA Architect Inc. in Houston. He specializes in retail, housing and educational facilities. John E. Herwig of General Elevator Co. Inc. is elected president of the National Association of Elevator Contractors. He will also act as chairman of the board, and will be responsible for establishing board policies and implementation of the organization's goals.

He has been with General Elevator Co. since 1964 in positions including draftsman and vice president of engineering. He is currently senior vice president, marketing/engineering. Simon G. Statter is promoted to president of Baltimore Spice. He will oversee all U.S. operations of the 51-year-old industrial spice and seasoning supplier. He joined the company in 1972, and most recently worked as vice president, sales and marketing. The company was recently acquired by the German-based Fuchs GmbH, a European spice manufacturer. Brian Decker is named media director/senior vice president of Eisner & Associates. He will manage all media planning and recommendations, as well as print and broadcast expenditures. He was previously the media director at the Connecticut firm of Mintz & Hoke. He was also an account supervisor at McCann-Erickson in Massachusetts. Keith B. Rohr joins The Maryland Center for Physical Therapy as a staff physical therapist. He has worked at St. Agnes Hospital.

Financial services:

Michael A. Clancy is named assistant vice president in the Commercial Services Division of Signet Bank. He works with existing commercial accounts to develop and maintain cash management business. He joined the bank in 1988.

Cathy R. Fuchs is promoted to international banking officer in charge of overseeing telecommunications and automation activities. She joined the bank in 1982 as a teller, and most recently worked as collections specialist in the International Banking Division.

Pamela S. Dekowski is promoted to commercial loan operations officer in charge of writing computer programs for the commercial loan system. She joined the bank in 1981.


Thomas E. Nicholson is appointed a producer at Alexander & Alexander Inc., an insurance brokerage and risk mangement company. He will handle new business development. He was previously sales manager of the PMA Insurance Co. and owner of the Nicholson Insurance Agency.

Cynthia Vacovsky is promoted to manager of state tax compliance in the company's Corporate Tax Department. She will manage state and local income and franchise tax filings for A&A's U.S. subsidiaries. She joined the company in 1984 and most recently served as senior tax accountant.

Sharon L. Walker joins the company as an account manager in the Transportation Department. She will service and market medium to large property accounts.

At the plant:

Donald G. Naranjo joins the Semi-Finished Products Group of Baltimore Specialty Steels Corp. as a metallurgist. He will be responsible for all metallurgical and quality control aspects for the Press Shop PRF processes and products. He will also direct the sonic requirements for semi-finished products.
