ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. -- St. Bonaventure piled up a 15-point lead in the first half, withstood a Morgan State rally, then pulled away to a 94-77 victory last night.
Kenrick Hamilton scored a career-high 27 for St. Bonaventure (2-4), making 10 of 15 shots from the field. Jason Brower hit only three of 12, but two of them were three-pointers, and he grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds.
Morgan State (0-5) actually made one more field goal -- and had two more three-point goals -- but had no answer for St. Bonaventure's success at the foul line. The Bonnies capitalized on 33 fouls against Morgan and hit 32-for-43 from the line. Morgan made 11-for-18.
St. Bonaventure also controlled the boards, 49-34. Alex Parker and Raylon Adams had five rebounds apiece for the Bears.
Hamilton scored 19 points in the first half as the Bonnies built a 23-12 lead after the first 7 minutes, 30 seconds. St. Bonaventure led 51-35 at halftime, but Ural Hogans scored seven points and Steven Haynes added five as the Bears closed to within 64-56 with nine minutes to play.
But the Bonnies, led by Peiter Hemelaer's four points, went on a 14-3 run over the next 4 1/2 minutes and took a commanding 78-59 lead on a Hemelaer layup.
Hogans led the Bears with 17 points, backed by Glenn Smith, 15, and James McCoy and Jason Rhodes, 11 apiece.
