A 23-year-old Annapolis man was killed Thursday night after losing control of his car while trying to negotiate a sharp curve on Defense Highway in Gambrills.

Kessler Smith, of the 1300 block Van Buren Street, was driving a 1984 Toyota Celica when he failed to slow down while going around the curve, police say.

The car struck a guard rail, and because the man was not wearing his seat belt, he was thrown across the front seat and hit his head on the passenger door frame, breaking his neck, police said.

No other cars were involved in the accident, which occurred at 10:16 p.m. in the east lane near Rutland Road.

County police executing a search warrant for suspected drugs arrested a Baltimore man and women early Friday morning at a Linthicum hotel after finding $12,000 in cash and numerous weapons.

However, police said, no drugs were found.

Members of the department's narcotics division began their investigation after receiving information that the two people were involved in trafficking drugs from two hotel rooms. After extensive surveillance, police said, search warrants were obtained and the special operations team entered the rooms. Police refused to name the hotel.

Police seized $12,000 in U.S. currency, one loaded 9mm Tarus handgun equipped with laser sights, one loaded 9 mm Tec9 machine pistol with a 30-round magazine, three bulletproof vests -- which police say the two people were wearing just before police entered the rooms -- and two cars.

Delori Felletti, 21, of the 1200 block West Lombard Street, was charged with two handgun violations and maintaining a common nuisance.

Allen Smallwood, 22, of Mount Holly Street, was charged with maintaining a common nuisance. Police say further charges are pending against the pair.

Two men robbed a Glen Burnie gas station Thursday night after handcuffing the clerk to a door knob.

At about 10 p.m., police said, two men entered a Citgo Station in the 5700 block Ritchie Highway, pointed a black handgun at the clerk and told him, "This is a stickup."

Police say the men forced the clerk into a rear storage area and handcuffed him to the door. The suspects took an undetermined amount of money and ran away in an unknown direction.

Customers attempting to purchase gas found the clerk and called the police.

A Severn woman walking through a Pioneer City playground was robbed Thursday morning by a man she believes was carrying a gun.

Joyce Baety, 53, of the 8200 block Autumn Lake Court, told police she was walking through the playground between Deerfield and Indian drives at about 8:40 a.m. when a man wearing dark clothes stuck a hard object against her back.

Police said Baety gave the man money. The suspect then ran into the woods.
