Elizabeth Werner, of Wardour in West Annapolis, has retired from the Anne Arundel County Public Library's Board of Trustees after 42 years.

Born in upstate New York, Werner joined the library board in 1948, shortly after moving to Annapolis. She has served on the board's executive committee and held the posts of secretary and chair of the membership committee. She has also served as the chair of programming for the Maryland Library Association's annual meeting. In a special celebration which preceded its Nov. 15 meeting, the board presented Werner with a three-volume set of books about the Tuesday Club, a popular social club in Annapolis during the Colonial period.

The books will be added in her name to the library's Gold Star collection of unique books and original sources on state and local history at the Annapolis branch on West Street.
