Sparkle Plenty

There's lots of glitter and gold around this season, and it's not provided only by tinselly Christmas trees and glowing Hanukkah candles. Fashions, too, shine this time of year.

Eva Chun's holiday collection is a good example of the stepped-up sparkle of the season. The 34-year-old Korean-American fashions her work from sequins, satin, silk and chiffon, cut in fashionable silhouettes like chemise sheaths, strapless bustiers and anorak jackets.

Setting off the sparkle are deep, intense colors like cobalt blue, violet and red, as well as elegant black and white.

Ruth Shaw, who carries Eva Chun designs at her boutique, has "very strong feelings" about the designer. "I think she really understands after-5 evening wear," she says. "Very few designers do. Her things are timeless; . . . even though not old, their quality is beautiful. Her fit and construction are very, very good, and her prices are realistic."

Eva Chun's holiday designs retail from $700 to $3,000.
