PHILADELPHIA -- Guard Ken Graf scored 19, including five three-pointers, as the University of Pennsylvania defeated Navy last night, 73-61. Navy (2-4), which came into the game averaging 96 points and 11 three-pointers a game, was held to just 3-of-25 three-point shots and wound up 21 points under its previous low point total of the season.
From a 33-27 halftime deficit, Navy closed to within three in the first four minutes, and six minutes later was within four, before the Quakers (2-3) pulled away for good.
Penn used a 7-2 run for a 61-52 lead, before Erik Harris hit a three-pointer to narrow Penn's lead to 68-57 with 1 minute, 38 seconds remaining. Dan Purdy and Vince Curran came back with two free throws each, and John Haase made a 15-foot jumper to make it 72-59 with 52 seconds left. Paul McMahon added 15 points and Curran added 14 points and 12 rebounds for Penn, while teammate Haase was held to nine points, 15 below his average.
Senior Eddie Reddick had a season-high 24 points for the Midshipmen.
