UMES falls to UTEP, 101-64, extending losing streak to 5

EL PASO, Texas -- Marlon Maxey and Johnny Melvin scored 18 points each to lead Texas-El Paso (3-2) over the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (1-5), 101-64, last night.

UMES, which suffered its fifth straight loss, all on the road, got 12 points from Robert Spear and 11 from Leland Kent.

UTEP's Von Bennett and David Van Dyke scored 14 apiece, and Mark McCall added 13.

The Miners out-rebounded the Hawks, 52-29, paced by Roy Howard's 10.

The Miners hit 64 percent of their field goals in the first half (23 of 36) to 39 percent (nine of 23) for the Hawks and led, 51-30, at halftime.
