Bess M. Ellison Hutzler's fur buyer

Bess M. Ellison, who headed the fur department at Hutzler's before her retirement about 25 years ago, died Nov. 22 at Sinai Hospital of complications to a broken arm.

Mrs. Ellison was 91 and lived at the Highfield House Condominium on Charles Street.

She worked at Hutzler's for more than 25 years and was one of the few women fur buyers at the time.

A native of Baltimore, the former Bess Morstein was a former president of the Maryland chapter of the National Executive Board of the American Jewish Congress, Women's Division, and a former member of the group's national executive board.

Her husband, Daniel Ellison, died in 1960. He was a Baltimore councilman for 20 years, 16 of them as the council's only Republican member. He also served in Congress from 1942 until 1944 and later in the state Senate.

Mrs. Ellison is survived by a son, Jack Sharloe of Miami Beach, Fla.; a sister, Rose Kogan of Miami Beach; a brother, Albert Morstein of Baltimore; and two grandchildren.

Services were private.
