Northeast Eagles

1990-91 Anne Arundel County Hoops At A Glance

December 07, 1990

Head coach: Calvin Vain (fourth season)

Assistants: Bob Lemire and Dennis Snyder

1989-1990 record: 19-7, lost to Mount Hebron in the state semifinals.

Returnees: Seniors Stephanie Lazor (center-forward), Kristy Zulka (guard), Tammy Kuebel (guard) and Debbi Dadds (center); juniors Jenn Vickery (guard) and Stacy Reynolds (guard).

Newcomers: Junior Jenelle Williams (guard); sophomores Kathleen Smith (guard) and April Hensley (forward).

Coach's outlook: "With the graduation of Monica Everett, Heather Kotula and Crissy Sisk, we lost about 25 points per game and a great deal of athletic ability and strength. But we've got more speed, because our guards are a little faster. I think we'll actually be a little stronger on the inside. I think we probably have as much coming back as anyone else does. Hopefully, we can duplicate what we did last year."

Anne Arundel County Sun outlook: The Eagles likely will limp through the early part of their schedule, since Lazor (5-foot-11) and Zulka (5-8, who may not return until mid-season) are coming off knee surgery and Kuebel still is shaking off the effects of an ankle injury. Before long, however, Zulka -- the county's leader in three-pointers last year with 38 -- Kuebel, Vickery and Reynolds will get rolling on the perimeter. And with the inside games of Lazor (11 points, 10 rebounds) and the 5-11 Dadds (five points, 10 rebounds), the Eagles should soar into the playoffs again this year.
