Chesapeake Cougars

1990-91 Anne Arundel County Hoops At A Glance

December 07, 1990

Head coach: Ginger Woods (third season)

Assistant: Dean Castle

1989-1990 record: 6-14.

Returnees: Seniors Julie Henne (guard), Amy Ordakowski (forward) and Sherri Malloy (guard); juniors Deanna Castle (guard), Mattie Cymek (forward) and Michelle League (forward); sophomores Staci Jenkins (guard) and Denise Perrone (forward).

Newcomers: Senior Michelle Julian (guard); juniors Valarie McBee (guard), Kelli Nash (center) and Jenny Parsons (forward).

Coach's outlook: "We've been looking pretty good during our scrimmage games. Last year's JV group is mixing in well. They're trying really hard. I think we're pretty well-balanced overall. Although we have a pretty good bench, a rash of injuries would probably hurt us. I think the key will be how long we take to mesh together as a unit. As long as we don't commit a lot of turnovers, we'll have a pretty good season."

Anne Arundel County Sun outlook: The Cougars look to be loaded at the guard and forward spots, but whether they contend under the boards with league powers like Severna Park, Old Mill and Broadneck remains to be seen.

Woods will be looking to get the ball in the hands of senior forwards Cymek and Ordakowski. After going through all of last season with no upperclassmen, Chesapeake may have the leadership and experience necessary to cop a break-even season.
