Meade Mustangs 1990-91

Anne Arundel County Hoops At A Glance

December 07, 1990

Head coach: Molly Wilson (second season)

Assistants: Del Hughes and Gina Snider

1989-1990 record: 12-9, lost to La Plata in region quarterfinals.

Returnees: Senior Kebbi Batson (guard); juniors Vonnita Pinkett (forward), Amy Ness (guard-forward), Tara Brereton (forward) and Kelly Dryden (guard).

Newcomers: Seniors Tamieca Hamlin (forward) and Shamone Williams (guard); sophomore Adrian Toles (forward); freshman Angie Bailey (guard).

Coach's outlook: "We're real young. We'll probably wind up starting mostly underclassmen. We lost our team leaders (Nikki Beall and Yalonda Wilkens). We've improved a lot since our first scrimmage (against Oakland Mills). We came into the game thinking we were better than we were, and then we found out how far we had to go. We have a lot of talent and potential. But I think we're a little immature. That may be our biggest weakness. If we can mature and keep our poise, it'll be interesting."

Anne Arundel County Sun outlook: With guard Kebbi Batson being the only senior expecting to see extensive floor time, Meade will rely on a stable of juniors (Pinkett, Ness, Brereton and Dryden) to help it return to the playoffs. Wilson expects Toles to bolster the Mustangs' offensive attack, citing her aggressive style of play and excellent offensive skills. Ness and Pinkett also will be important cogs in the Meade game plan. If the Mustangs can keep their key players relatively injury-free, they could return to postseason play.
