Severn Admirals

1990-91 Anne Arundel County Hoops At A Glance

December 07, 1990

Head coach: Rhonda Warmsley (first season)

Assistant coach: Eric Austin

1989-1990 record: 8-8.

Returnees: Seniors Suzanne Weinberg (guard) and Kristin Gillis (guard); juniors Anne Schorreck (guard), Helene Leclercq (guard) and Jen Wassif (forward).

Newcomers: Senior Heather Clark (forward); junior Keren Baki (forward); sophomores Katie Gamble (forward) and Meagan Pollock (forward-center); freshmen Tracy Raley (center), Rebecca Ripley (forward-center) and Emily Franey (forward).

Coach's outlook: "From what I've heard about competition in this league, I think we can be competitive. I would like for us to be a pressure-type team. I want us to run the floor and get as many fast-break opportunities as possible, but to do so, we are really going to have to work at it. Our defense and rebounding are strong, but we're lacking offense, and we have no depth on the bench. We're inexperienced, so if we're going to be a running team, first we have to get in better condition."

Anne Arundel County Sun outlook: Warmsley appears to be heading the Admirals in the right direction, but inexperience probably will alter Severn's plotted course. The Admirals' only two seniors, guards Weinberg and Gillis, will be called upon to make things happen and for their leadership. Severn doesn't play the most difficult schedule in the county, and if the Admirals can get a few early wins, they could surprise a few teams -- maybe even themselves.
