Severna Park Falcons

1990-91 Anne Arundel County Hoops At A Glance

December 07, 1990

Head coach: Kevin McGrath (11th season)

Assistants: Joe Gillespie and Bonnie Habicht

1989-1990 record: 19-4, lost to Old Mill in region semifinals

Returnees: Seniors Ann Heiser (forward), Barb Geary (forward), Tami Riley (guard), Tina Riley (guard-forward), Ellen Westcoat (guard-forward) and Lori Habicht (guard); junior Kerri Schmale (guard); sophomores Amy Carnaggio (guard) and Brandee Snyder (center).

Newcomers: Juniors Nicki Cecere (guard) and Jill Natwick (guard-forward); sophomores Katie Marks (guard-forward) and Lori Sharpless (guard).

Coach's outlook: "I believe if everything falls into place, we'll be fine. It's just that it's taking longer. What's going to be difficult is getting the returning players to accept their new roles and also mesh with the younger kids. To be honest with you, if we had stayed with the old stuff, we'd probably be farther along than we are right now. Hopefully, we'll get it together so we don't get bumped."

Anne Arundel County Sun outlook: Even with the program minus 75 percent of its offense after graduation, Severna Park still is blessed with enough good athletes to produce another winning season. The fast-breaking Falcons simply have to avoid being pushed around inside by bigger, stronger teams like Broadneck and North County. The Riley twins, Geary and Westcoat, also have to contribute enough offensively to help offset the losses of Erika Mawhorr and Katie Laidley. In addition, everyone needs to pound the boards now that Karen Parker has departed.
