1990-91 Anne Arundel County Hoops At A Glance

December 07, 1990

Head coach: Linda Kilpatrick (14th season)

Assistants: Sharon McAllister and Monica Chaney

1989-1990 record: 15-10, lost to Northeast in the region finals

Returnees: Seniors Landra Phillips (center) and Susan Shaffer (forward); juniors Lindee Sisk (forward), Talaya Barnett (guard) and Kim Smith (guard).

Newcomers: Junior Erica Estep (forward); freshmen Laekeka Wesley (center-forward), Lisa Biederman (center), Cari Sherbert (guard) and Laura Stockett (guard-forward).

Coach's outlook: "I had 17 freshmen try out for the team, and I decided to keep four on the varsity to work on the future. We're going into my offensive and defensive system slowly, so they can learn the press. I lost six of my top seven players to graduation, so I knew this year would be one for rebuilding, but we've played some very tough scrimmages, and we haven't gotten blown away by anyone. We're not going to have any one player like Kelly (Archambo) dominating, but depending on how the inside game develops, we're hoping that everyone can contribute."

Anne Arundel County Sun outlook: The Bulldogs' success will depend on the leadership of the 5-foot-9 Sisk, Barnett (5-6) and Smith (5-6) -- all of whom were reserves on last year's squad. The trio has done the bulk of the scoring in scrimmages. The inside game will be built around Phillips, a 6-foot center and one of just two seniors on the squad. Southern is lacking the overall talent of last year, but as the inside game develops, its chances for a playoff berth will improve.
