Edwards to miss bowl

December 06, 1990|By Doug Brown

Defensive end Karl Edwards, the Aberdeen High graduate who has been a sometime starter during his four years at Maryland, has mononucleosis and will miss the Terps' Independence Bowl game Dec. 15 against Louisiana Tech.

Edwards shared playing time this year with Greg Hines, who missed the last part of the season with a knee injury. Redshirt freshman Mark Sturdivant will start in Edwards' place, perhaps being spelled by Hines, who was to begin practicing with a knee brace today.

Edwards had 22 tackles in the last three games, including eight in the upset of Virginia in the regular-season finale.
