Baltimore County police have identified the 19-year-old exotic dancer whose body was found in her Essex-area apartment Monday evening. No arrest has been made in her killing.

Police said the victim, Joie Lynne Wisdom, originally from California, lived in the Hartland Run Apartments in the 1400 block of Clearstream Road. She was strangled sometime between 10 p.m. Sunday, when she was last seen alive in her apartment by a female friend, and 6 p.m. Monday when her roommate found her body.

Wisdom was lying on her bedroom floor dressed in a nightgown.

Police said Wisdom was an exotic dancer at Memories, a bar in the 4000 block of North Point Blvd.

After interviews with other dancers, the owner of the bar, the victim's close friends and her roommate, who also is a dancer at Memories, police learned that Wisdom had been getting letters recently from someone who frightened her.

Police declined to elaborate on the information.

Police said Wisdom's sparsely furnished third-floor apartment showed no signs of forced entry and that nothing appeared missing, leading police to believe she may have known her killer.

Wisdom's roommate told police the victim's parents were separated or divorced and lived out of state.

It was not known if the parents have been located and told of their daughter's slaying.
