Elkton man dies after truck hits pole

December 05, 1990

An Elkton man was fatally injured last night when his pickup truck left Md. 545 near Elkton at high speed and crashed into a utility pole.

State Police said Thomas N. McIntyre, 37, was driving a 1989 Ford pickup truck north near Dogwood Road about 7:30 p.m. when he ran off the right side of the road and entered a ditch.

Police said the truck traveled 200 feet in the ditch before McIntyre returned the vehicle to the northbound lane, crossed over the southbound lane and hit the pole.

McIntyre was ejected through the driver's window.

Police said McIntyre died at Union Hospital in Elkton a short time later.

Driver error and speed contributed to the crash, police said.
