A 19-year-old Essex woman died early today after being stabbed in an apartment in Bengies in eastern Baltimore County, police said.

Another 19-year-old woman was arrested at the scene and charged with first-degree murder in the death of Fatima Lawanna Jefferson of the 1600 block of Dartford Road in Essex.

Police said the stabbing occurred inside the suspect's Tidewater Village apartment about 11 p.m.

Police said the suspect, Mary Elizabeth Shaw, of the first block of Minkler Court, was arrested at the scene shortly after 11 p.m. without incident.

Police said an anonymous person called police, saying that a woman inside a Minkler Court apartment had been stabbed.

Jefferson, who was stabbed in the back, was taken by ambulance to the Chase Elementary School grounds in the 11700 block of Eastern Ave., where she was placed aboard a State Police Med-Evac helicopter and flown to the Shock-Trauma Unit in Baltimore. She died at 12:02 a.m. at Shock-Trauma.

Police said Shaw was charged with first-degree murder and using a deadly weapon in the commission of a felony. Police said they had no motive for the slaying.

Shaw was being held at the North Point District station pending a bail review hearing before a District Court judge.
