Chesapeake Cougars

1990-91 Anne Arundel County Hoops At A Glance

December 05, 1990

Head coach: Tom Kraning (sixth season)

Assistant: Ben Yates

1989-1990 record: 2-20.

Returnees: Seniors Brian King (center), Louis Van Wembeke (guard), Darryl Reid (forward), Chris Rizzo (guard) and Sean Sessney (forward); junior Mark Hall (guard).

Newcomers: Juniors Justin Hall (guard), Jason Jubb (guard), Tim Wylde (guard), Bob Conrad (guard) and Mike Lind (forward).

Coach's outlook: "This group by far is the best group of basketball players I've ever had while I've been here. Nine of them played in two different summer leagues. I think they're a little bit more serious about basketball than in the past. The level of play is up a notch from in past years. Not that we'll have world-beaters, but it'll be a change from the one-dimensional players we used to have. The big thing this year is that the kids have to believe in themselves. We're going to see what we're made of by Dec. 20, because we will have played Mount St. Joe, Annapolis and Broadneck. Those three games should get us in the right frame of mind in a hurry."

Anne Arundel County Sun outlook: Kraning, never one to be a pessimist, sees a lot more potential in the 1990-1991 edition of the Cougar basketball squad. Chesapeake seems to have enough size inside, anchored by 6-foot-8 center Brian King, plus a seasoned point guard in junior Mark Hall. Pure foot speed is what the Cougars lack, however, which should lead to their downfall.
