Broadneck Bruins

1990-91 Anne Arundel County Hoops At A Glance

December 05, 1990

Head coach: Ken Kazmarek (seventh season)

Assistants: Kevin McMullen, John Spinneweber and Pat Kostkowski

1989-1990 record: 20-4, lost to Annapolis in region finals.

Returnees: Seniors Johnny Williams (guard), Chris Ricks (guard), Sean Tettemer (forward), Mike Norton (guard), Marlon Bailey (forward) and Damien Spain (forward).

Newcomers: Seniors Ken Lennox (guard), Boris Beck (center) and Mike Finkel (forward); juniors Darnell Howard (guard), Dave Britton (forward), Greg Jackson (forward), Maurice Washington (guard), Jeff Vincent (guard) and Matt Weimer (forward).

Coach's outlook: "Our goal always is to put ourselves in position for a good showing in the playoffs. To us, that means being one of the top four teams in the county so we can at least play our first game at home. We really value our home court. We just want to put ourselves in good position for the playoffs, and I believe this team can do it. I believe we can be there and be pretty tough by the end of the year."

Anne Arundel County Sun outlook: It's fortunate for the Broadneck players that their coach doesn't set a 20-win season as a yearly goal. The loss of standout center Matt Campbell and three other starters will make equaling last year's record a difficult chore. This still is a playoff-caliber team, but Williams must get ample scoring help -- he can't shoulder the entire load -- and the frontcourt must produce enough points and rebounds, so Kazmarek isn't forced to rush Beck along.
