Northeast Eagles 1990-91

Anne Arundel County Hoops At A Glance

December 05, 1990

Head coach: John Barbour (12th season)

Assistants: Brandt Schanberger and Pete Pasqualini

1989-1990 record: 17-7, 3A/2A/1A co-champions with Southern, lost to Central in region finals.

Returnees: Seniors Steve Strauss (forward), Kevin Mursch (center), Craig Everett (guard-forward), Allen Tetrault (forward) and Zack Herold (center-forward); junior Gene Pleyo (guard).

Newcomers: Juniors Scott Rey (guard), Matt Conaway (guard), Chad Sanschagrin (center), Andy Becker (forward), Tyler Clymer (guard), Chad O'Brien (forward) and Brodie Flood (guard).

Coach's outlook: "Things have been sort of falling into place since Nov.

15 and the kids seem to be picking up where they left off last year. With four starters coming back, that's a lot of experience, which is really going to help. Size could be our biggest weakness. Except for Mursch, our big guys are thin so we may not get the inside game we had last year. We have the personnel and similar capabilities as last year's team, but I don't know whether we can accomplish what we did last year."

Anne Arundel County Sun outlook: What the Eagles accomplished last season was the fourth-best record in Barbour's career, the near opposite of a 5-17 record two years ago. If players from a 13-7 junior varsity squad mesh with top returning scorer and rebounder Strauss (13.9 points, 6.4 rebounds) and Pleyo (7.3 points, 3.8 assists), the Eagles again will contend with Southern.
