St. Mary's Saints 1990-91

Anne Arundel County Hoops At A Glance

December 05, 1990

Head coach: Jim Sheehan (ninth season)

Assistants: Gino Sanders and Vince DePasqual

1989-1990 record: 13-12.

Returnees: Seniors Rob Chomo (guard), Mike Murray (forward), Brian Springer (forward), Will Futch (guard) and Greg Geiger (center); junior Chris Brannitan (forward).

Newcomers: Senior David Jones (guard); juniors Rob Tobin (guard) and Roy Kiernan (forward); sophomore Kevin Reichart (forward).

Coach's outlook: "We really got devastated by graduation, but I think with the type of schedule we have, we should be competitive. We have the personnel. It all depends on how well and how fast they mesh together.

Someone has to step forward and score some points to take some pressure off (senior Rob) Chomo. We don't have anyone with any experience playing with their backs to the basket, so we're going to have to play an uptempo game.

I've always had at least one productive big guy, but this year there's none. To counter that, we are going to have to make the other team uncomfortable every time they touch the ball."

Anne Arundel County Sun outlook: The Saints are inexperienced this season, and they're also small. With only two players standing above 6-feet, St.

Mary's will have to beat teams up and down the court to score any points.

Sheehan believes his Saints have enough depth to keep themselves out of the Maryland Scholastic Association B Conference cellar, but their height inevitably will keep them lurking near the basement.
