Spalding Cavaliers 1990-91

Anne Arundel County Hoops At A Glance

December 05, 1990

Head coach: Lee Dove (second season)

Assistant: Ed Bittner

1989-1990 record: 14-17

Returnees: Seniors Bill Barth (guard), Tom McCarthy (guard) and Matt Wozar (guard); juniors Pat Calabrese (guard-forward) and Edgar Wright (guard).

Newcomers: Senior Brad Beauregard (forward); juniors Ray Paquin (forward-center), Pat Mohr (guard-forward), Brian Wade (center) and David Justus (forward); sophomores Jeff Paxon (forward) and Brian Mohr (forward).

Coach's outlook: "We lost all five of our starters and seven of 12 players from last year's squad to graduation, so we're going to be young.

We're not only going to be young, but we're going to be inexperienced as well, because the guys who are returning didn't see much action last year.

We have talented athletes, but it all comes down to how well they play as a team. I think we will be competitive and I know we're going to surprise some people."

Anne Arundel County Sun outlook: To say the Archbishop Spalding boys basketball program was hurt by graduation would be a tremendous understatement. The Cavaliers were brutalized. On a more positive note, Spalding does appear to have some promising underclassmen. The Cavaliers are going to have to grow up in a hurry if they wish to stay competitive.

Look for the Cavs to struggle early and peak too late in the Maryland Scholastic Association C Conference.
