Southern Bulldogs 1990-91

Anne Arundel County Hoops At A Glance

December 05, 1990

Head coach: Tom Albright (26th season)

Assistants: Ted Gott and Dan Robertson

1989-1990 record: 15-7, 3A/2A/1A co-champions with Northeast, lost to Central in region quarterfinals.

Returnees: Seniors Vince Barnett (guard), Clayton Pinkney (guard), Alvin Gross (guard-forward), Ray Mudd (forward-center) and Mark Thomas (forward-center).

Newcomers: Juniors Mike Eicens (forward), Jesse Marks (forward) and Chris Thomas (forward); sophomores Terrell Jones (forward), Troy Dennis (guard), Fred McGhee (guard) and John Gee (guard).

Coach's outlook: "People know what we're going to do. We're going to press and we're going to run. We lost some experience and three good defensive players (Gregg Tyler, Wendell Estep and Cedric Mason) and we're going to have to adjust to not having them. I'm not going to change what I've done since 1968 because of inexperience. The only way we're going to get there is to play at the same level. Our young players are pushing the returning players and I have a feeling some of our guys will step forward and we'll get the job done."

Anne Arundel County Sun outlook: Even with a height deficiency, Albright -- who has the longest tenure among active coaches -- is not straying from the aggressive strategy that has brought him four state titles. Barnett (24-point average) and company again will get a challenge from Northeast, with the edge -- and tradition -- going to the Dawgs.
