Several hundred stair climbers are expected to race up the 27 floors of 6 St. Paul Centre, Baltimore's tallest building, as part of the Flight Against Cystic Fibrosis fund-raising race at 5 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 6.
Participants can register for three events. The first is a race for individuals who will each climb the 540 stairs as quickly as possible. The second race is for corporate teams of five members. The third event, a relay for teams of three, divides the climb into sections of nine floors.
The Flight will use two stairwells in the building. Individual climbers will start in 30-second intervals.
Laura Gann, spokeswoman for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, says that a "fast walk" up the 27 stories takes about 10 minutes. She estimates that a "very fast run" could cut that time in half.
