December 02, 1990

Principals have been appointed to head the two new schools scheduled to open in September 1991.

Andrew M. Barshinger, now in his sixth year as principal of St. John's Lane Elementary School, has been appointed to head the new Pointer's Run Elementary School at Trotter and Guilford roads.

Jesse Smith, who has been principal of Wilde Lake Middle School for 10 years, will become the principal of Mayfield Woods Middle School on Red Barn Way north of Mayfield Road.

Superintendent Michael E. Hickey said he hoped to announce appointments to fill the vacancies at St. John's Lane and Wilde Lake at the Dec. 13 board meeting.

PARENTS' GROUP GETSEDUCATION GRANT

The National Committee for Citizens in Education, a Columbia-based advocacy group for parent involvement in education, has received a $46,000 grant from a private foundation.

NCCE will use the grant to plan a conference on how parent involvement can improve middle school students' achievement.

The conference is tentatively set for spring 1992.
