WESTMINSTER - Kathryn Hildebran, of Westminster Nursing and Convalescent Center, recently was honored on her 50th anniversary of joining the Western Maryland College faculty.

The professor of modern languages emerita was presented a proclamation and an official college chair by WMC president Robert Chambers.

Hildebran came to WMC in 1940 as associate professor and chair of modern languages. She has master's and Ph.D degrees from the University of Chicago.

She served as an officer in several professional organizations, including the Modern Language Association, the American Association of Teachers of French, the Alliance Francaise of Baltimore and the National Federation of Modern Language Teachers Associations.

The Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Oberlin College authored a book on the French novelist George Sand in 1941.

When Hildebran retired from WMC in 1969, former president Lowell S.

Ensor said, "You have rendered long and valuable service during your tenure . . . and have contributed to the lives of innumerable students in your classes.

"Both personally and officially, I am grateful for what you have meant to the modern language department."
