November 28, 1990

A memorial service for Dorsey Shreve Waxter, a former manager of the women's Hamilton Street Club, will be held at 11 a.m. today at Emmanuel Episcopal Church, 811 Cathedral St.

Mrs. Waxter, who was 90 and lived in the Roland Park area for many years, died Sunday at Keswick after a long illness.

For a time during the 1960s, she managed the Baltimore club.

In the late 1930s and early 1940s, she managed the food service at the Plimhimmon Hotel in Ocean City, which had been built by her grandmother, Rosalie Tilghman Shreve.

Born in Baltimore, the former Dorsey Shreve was a graduate of the Bryn Mawr School and made her debut at the Bachelors Cotillon in 1918.

Her husband, William D. Waxter Jr., who had operated a family business, the Susquehanna Ice Co., died in 1943.

She is survived by two sons, William D. Waxter III of Baltimore and Arthur Lee Shreve Waxter of Easton; a brother, Levin Gale Shreve of Baltimore; and four grandchildren.
