Annual Turkey Trot Gets Terrific Turnout

November 28, 1990

More than 90 runners participated in the Howard County Striders Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving morning.

Speed didn't play the biggest role in this 6.2-mile course through Jeffers Hill. Accuracy did. Without ther benefit of timing devices, participants tried to estimate their pace and cross the finish line at 11 a.m.

Those coming closest to the target time were declared the winners and presented with Golden Turkey awards.

Bill Elzinga and Dick Woods were the top two winners among the men.

Elzinga finished the race 0.89 seconds after 11 a.m. and Woods finished 1.27 seconds after the hour.

A total of seven men were within 10 seconds of the mark.

In the women's field, Nadia Wasserman was 18.1 seconds shy of the 11 a.m. target and Denise Underwood-Hannegan crossed the line 21.9 seconds early.

Information on upcoming Striders races: Joe Wasserman (381-6385) or the Strider hot line (964-1998).
