November 28, 1990

WESTMINSTER - "Simone de Beauvoir: A Biography," by Deirdre Bair, will be the focus of the fall semester's final Book Sandwiched In review from 12:10 to 1 p.m. in the McDaniel Lounge on Wednesday, Dec. 5.

Dr. Martine Motard-Noar, WMC assistant professor of foreign languages, will examine this acclaimed biography of the French playwright, novelist and essayist.

Motard-Noar earned her Ph.D. from the University of Nebraska in 1987, and most recently taught French at Drew University. She has taught French at Western Maryland since her arrival in the fall of 1988.

Bair's biography of Beauvoir, released this year, covers aspects of the writer's life from her birth in 1908, her relationship with French philosopher and writer Jean-Paul Sartre and her work as a leading feminist during the latter part of her life. Bair won the National Book Award in 1981 for her biography of Samuel Beckett.

Books Sandwiched In is a series of free, hour-long reviews sponsored by the college and Locust Books of Westminster. Participants are invited to bring their lunch and enjoy beverages provided.
