Owings Mills finds solace in defeat

November 26, 1990|By Dave Glassman

The most successful football season in Owings Mills history (9-3) ended with the luck of the draw. Defending champion Kent beat the Eagles, 33-13, in a MPSSAA Class 1A semifinal.

Coach Ray Groszkowski said, "We ran into Kent and, after playing them, I think they're probably going to win it . . . I think our kids played tough. They were just worn down as the game progressed."

But Groszkowski and the Eagles still earned a measure of satisfaction. "The whole season was a surprise," he said. "As the season progressed, the kids started believing in themselves. It was just a very successful year."
