November 25, 1990

A woman used a steak knife to stab her boyfriend at the Arbutus Shopping Plaza Friday evening after he caught her cheating on him, Baltimore County police said yesterday.

Police said the victim found his girlfriend in bed with another man and followed the two to the shopping center in the 1000 block of Maiden Choice Lane. An argument began at the shopping center, and the woman stabbed her boyfriend in the back with a steak knife during a scuffle, police said.

The man staggered back to his car, and the woman followed. Witnesses told police the woman pulled the knife out of the man's back and dropped it on the ground. The man with her kicked the knife 37 feet from the car, where it was later found by police.

Police said they were not sure if the woman carried the knife to the shopping center or obtained it there.

The victim, Roger D. Barker, 38, of the 4700 block of Aldgate Green in Arbutus was in critical but stable condition at the Maryland Shock Trauma Center yesterday.

Linda H. Burgess, 31, of the 4400 block of Alan Drive in Arbutus was charged Friday with attempted murder. John E. Allen, 31, of the 1100 block of Montcalm Court in Baltimore was charged with being an accessory to the crime.

Ms. Burgess was being held without bail at the Baltimore County Detention Center. Mr. Allen was released on his own recognizance.
