Red Wings' Garpenlo scores 4 in 5-3 win over Blues NHL

November 24, 1990

DETROIT -- Swedish import Johan Garpenlo scored four goals last night, and Tim Cheveldae stopped a penalty shot, as the Detroit Red Wings posted a 5-3 victory over the St. Louis Blues.

Garpenlov, 22, who scored the deciding goal Wednesday in Detroit's 4-3 victory over the Minnesota North Stars, is the first National Hockey League player to score four goals in a game this season and the Red Wings' first since Steve Yzerman accomplished the feat Jan. 31 against the Edmonton Oilers. He is just the 16th player in Detroit history to record a four-goal game.
