Virginia edged defending NCAA champion Stanford by nine points to earn the No. 1 ranking yesterday in The Associated Press' preseason women's basketball poll. The Lady Cavaliers FTC received 25 first-place votes and 1,506 points and the Cardinal collected 23 first-place votes and 1,497 points from a panel of 64 women's coaches.
It's the first time Virginia's women have ever been ranked No. 1. Maryland was ranked No. 20.
