Three-alarm fire strikes Arundel cosmetics plant

November 19, 1990

A three-alarm blaze at a northern Anne Arundel County plant today caused more than $1 million in damages but no injuries, a county fire department spokesman said.

A fire at Alford Industrial, which packages and manufactures cosmetics at 7600 Energy Parkway off Solley Road, began near a printing press shortly before 7 a.m., said Lt. Gary Sheckells, the spokesman.

The flames spread through ductwork to the roof, causing an estimated $25,000 in damage to the building, he said. The fire also caused an estimated $1 million in damage to the building's equipment and contents.

About a dozen employees safely evacuated the building, he said.

Sixty-three firefighters brought the fire under control before 8 a.m.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, Sheckells said.
