A block of Centre Street, between Calvert Street and Guilford Avenue, is expected to remain closed to traffic until at least tomorrow night because of construction work on a pedestrian skywalk.
The closing was needed to provide space and safety clearance for a 450-ton crane used to lift the steel walkway onto concrete support piers. The skywalk will connect the Baltimore Sun's main Calvert Street offices with its new Chesapeake Center offices and garage.
Traffic heading east on Centre has been detoured one block north on Calvert, east on Monument Street, south on Guilford, then east again on Centre.
Barring delays, Centre Street is expected to reopen by 6 p.m. tomorrow.
