In search of a quick lunch, my husband wandered into Marino's one noon and found the Italian Cheese Steak much better than he had expected. Hey, this isn't Philly, but it was a good, if atypical, cheese steak.
On a return visit, we tried a variety of other fare offered by this corner eatery, in a shopping center hidden from Belvedere Avenue by apartment buildings.
The best sandwich was a Pizza Sub ($2.90 for half) that appealed to my pizza-loving daughter. The sub roll was thick with gooey cheese and tomato sauce, and the half was more than enough for a small eater.
The meatball sub ($3.20 for half) had several large, lightly spiced, meatballs in a zesty tomato sauce. We also had a Tuna Salad Sub ($3.60 for half) that was a little heavy on the mayo, but flavorful. The crunchy roll complemented the salad. Our Greek Salad ($3.50) was average, and the dressing did nothing to enhance it.
Marino's has more than subs and salads: spaghetti, "homemade lasagna," pizza and fried fish platters. There's also homemade cheesecake and, the day we were there, rice pudding. We did not indulge.
You can eat at Marino's, carry out or order from home and have it delivered -- within limits, of course.
