Bowie Star To Miss Broadneck

November 16, 1990

The Broadneck boys soccer team has one less player to contend with when it meets Bowie tomorrow evening in the state 4A championship.

Mark Jonas, a 17-goal scorer for the Bulldogs, will miss the finale because of a prior commitment with the U.S. national under-17 team. The junior midfielder is bound for Houston today to train for upcoming games in Costa Rica.

Jonas was denied permission to remain with Bowie until after the 7:30 p.m. game at Old Mill.

The Bulldogs "still have a lot of players who can hurt you," said Broadneck athletic director Tim McMullen, whose brother, Kevin, coaches the Bruins. "We'll still have to play our best to beat them, which is the way it should be in a state final."
