Man slain at Murphy complex

November 15, 1990

A southwest Baltimore man was shot to death yesterday in the 1100 block of Argyle Ave., city police said.

The body of Gordon Stewart, 25, of the 4300 block of Connecticut Ave., was found near the corner of East Hoffman Street in the George B. Murphy apartment complex around 4 p.m. by Central District officers. They were responding to a report of a shooting, police said.

Homicide Detective Walter Akers said Stewart was shot at least once with an unknown-caliber handgun and was pronounced dead at the scene by the crew of a city Fire Department ambulance.

Stewart's sister arrived on the scene a short time later and positively identified her brother.

The detective said residents of the area reported hearing a shot but did not see anyone fleeing the scene.

Akers said a motive for the slaying was not known.
